Mark Ruffalo Critiques Governor Gavin Newsom’s Leadership
Actor Mark Ruffalo has once again targeted California Governor Gavin Newsom, claiming that Newsom should be considered “disqualified” from running for president. This criticism comes as Ruffalo expresses dissatisfaction with Newsom’s backing of the Paramount takeover of Warner Bros., suggesting that the governor is primarily focused on favoring billionaires.
Continuing his critique, Ruffalo took to social media to express his disapproval of a recent proposal, California’s Prop 42. This initiative is aimed at preventing a state wealth tax, which would tax unrealized gains on investments before they’re sold. To Ruffalo, this is indicative of broader issues where wealthy individuals are prioritized over pressing needs like children’s health insurance amid rising living costs.
He stated, “It’s beyond sad. It’s beyond disappointing; at this point, it’s disqualifying for anyone with ambitions for higher office as a Democrat, or a Republican, for that matter, to be fighting to keep billionaires from being taxed while kids don’t have health insurance and the cost of living goes sky-high.”
Ruffalo further criticized the influence of wealthy individuals on the political landscape, noting, “These billionaires are also the ones hellbent on replacing entire workforces with the AI they are developing with our tax dollars. We are also living through the largest wealth gap in modern history.” He followed up with the assertion that the only way to address this economic disparity is through robust taxation.
He expressed hope that Newsom might reconsider his stance, saying, “It’s crazy that this is what he chooses to spend his political capital, and part of his legacy, doing.” Additionally, Ruffalo pointed out that Newsom had previously vetoed important legislation, including a bill aimed at regulating AI and another to eliminate harmful chemicals from cookware. It appears that Ruffalo believes Newsom consistently favors corporate interests over public welfare.
“Gavin, we aren’t looking for the Democratic version of Trump. That was a good goof. Please try something else. It’s tired,” Ruffalo added, emphasizing the need for effective leadership. He stated that the public deserves a champion who genuinely addresses the real challenges of the day—specifically, the struggle against the imbalance of wealth and power.
Despite having a considerable net worth himself, Ruffalo criticized Newsom again regarding Prop 42 earlier in the week. He remarked, “Just like the Paramount Merger, Gavin Newsom does what he always does. Sells out the working-class people for the billionaires again and again.” Overall, Ruffalo’s comments reflect a growing concern about political accountability and the treatment of the working class amidst ongoing economic struggles.
