Meta announced on Thursday that it has regained its “OG Facebook” functionality. This is a Friends Tab designed to highlight only content from the user's Friends list without any additional recommended posts.

Initially, the Friends tab will be available only to US and Canadian users, but it is expected to have wider availability in the future.
Content featured in this dedicated tab includes personal posts, reels, stories shared by friends, upcoming birthday reminders, and requests from pending friends.
Until now, tabs have mainly served as hubs to manage friend requests, suggesting connections through the “knowing people” feature.
This strategic change follows Meta's recent efforts to stimulate Facebook's appeal. Especially among the younger demographics, which have been largely drawn to platforms like Instagram and Tiktok.
Last October, META introduced a redesign targeting Gen Z with an emphasis on community engagement, group discussions and video-centric content.
However, Friends Tab marks a deliberate pivot towards a more intimate, friend-centered interaction.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg returned to this return to the platform's roots at the beginning of January during the company's fourth quarter revenue call, identifying it as a central priority for 2025.
“I think there are many opportunities to make it [Facebook] Zuckerberg told investors at the time, adding, “I think some of this will go back to the way Facebook was originally used at the time.”
The Revenue Call doesn't detail any specific upcoming changes, but the Friends Tab rollout is just the first phase of saying Meta will be a number of updates throughout the year.
In recognition of drifting away from Facebook's original identity, Meta wrote on his blog:
Users can now access the new Friends tab via Facebook's Home Feed Navigation Bar or through the Bookmarks section of the app.
Additionally, users can use Settings and Privacy > Settings >[設定]>[設定]By navigating to the home feed directly to make it easier to access[Friends Tab]There is an option to pin directly to allow customization of settings.
Meta hopes that this new emphasis on personal connections and friendship will regain the essence of early Facebook by enhancing user engagement and strengthening the platform's relevance in a busy social media situation.
