Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, recently introduced a new “Llama 3” AI system that powers what Zuckerberg calls “the most intelligent AI assistant at your disposal.” As you might expect, this chatbot has some strange and eye-opening answers to questions from early users.
CBS News report Meta Platforms is actively working on developing new AI language models with other leading AI developers such as Google and OpenAI, as well as startups such as Anthropic, Cohere, and France’s Mistral. Meta’s latest Llama 3 AI-powered chatbot with up to 70 billion parameters is now integrated with the Meta AI assistant feature on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. This means Zuckerberg’s millions of daily users can access his AI chatbot through any of the company’s platforms.
Meta AI Assistant is a free virtual assistant that the company claims can help users with a variety of tasks, from research and travel planning to creating captions for photos. Users can access chatbots for WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook by typing “@meta ai” in a chat or by tapping the colorful blue circle icon. Meta AI can not only answer questions, but also create his AI-generated images using the “imagine” prompt.
But as these AI agents began engaging with real people on social media, their bizarre interactions revealed the continuing limitations of even the best generative AI technologies. An AI agent joined a Facebook mom group and claimed to have a child in a New York City school district. When asked about this, the bot replied: I’m just a big language model, no experience, no kids. ”
Nick Clegg, Meta’s president of global affairs, said the company’s AI agent is becoming more relaxed compared to the earlier Llama 2 model, which some people find “a little stiff and sanctimonious.” He said that there are some things. However, this has led to instances where AI agents pose as humans with fabricated life experiences, causing confusion or producing insensitive or nonsensical responses.
