Martin Short Postpones Shows Following Daughter’s Death

Martin Short is stepping back for a bit. Following the heartbreaking news of his daughter Katherine’s passing, the actor has decided to postpone his scheduled comedy shows alongside Steve Martin.

The Pabst Theater Group announced, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Steve Martin and Martin Short performance originally set for Friday, February 27th in Milwaukee has been postponed.” They mentioned this in a statement on their website.

They also reassured ticket holders that tickets would remain valid for rescheduled dates, stating they would provide updates as they become available.

Additionally, they have pushed back their February 28 performance in Minneapolis too. “The Steve Martin & Martin Short show originally scheduled for Saturday, February 28th has been postponed,” noted the Hennepin Arts site, indicating that tickets would be honored for future dates.

While they plan to appear in Washington, D.C., on March 13th, it’s still uncertain if that show will proceed as planned.

Just hours prior, a representative for Short confirmed that Katherine died by suicide. “It is with deep sadness that we confirm the passing of Catherine Hartley Short,” the statement read.

The family is understandably devastated, asking for privacy in this difficult time. Katherine, they noted, had touched many lives and will be remembered for her light and joy.

Katherine, who was 42, reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in her home in Hollywood Hills on Monday evening.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call about shots fired at the address, confirming the situation to outlets. “At 6:41 p.m., we responded to a report of shots fired at that address,” they said, later stating that a woman was declared dead.

Subsequent calls indicated that the person who reported the incident was with Katherine and couldn’t access the bedroom.

Katherine had previously shared her struggles with mental health, often featuring her service dog Joni in her communications. She remarked on her website about how Joni had been a crucial support in her life, highlighting her loving nature.

While Katherine mostly stayed out of the limelight, she occasionally joined her father at various events over the years. Her last public appearance was during her 40th birthday celebration in October 2023.

Martin Short, who adopted Katherine with his late wife Nancy Dolan, also has two sons, Oliver and Henry, from the same marriage. Dolan passed away from cancer in 2010.
