Mary Trump on debate: Winners don’t ‘turn down’ the chance to ‘win again’

Former President Donald Trump's niece, Mary Trump, said she believes her uncle knows he lost during the presidential debate earlier this week because a winner wouldn't turn down the opportunity to “win again.”

Mary Trump Participated MSNBC's Alex Witt will be on Saturday to discuss Tuesday's debate between President Trump and Vice President Harris.

Mary Trump has been an outspoken critic of her uncle and his campaign. She joined the Biden communications office after the first presidential debate in June.

The Republican candidate made a surprise appearance in the spin room after her debate with Harris, denying questions about her performance and declaring herself the night's winner.

“I think Donald showed his card not only during the debate but immediately after the debate. Winners don't show up in spin rooms and winners don't turn down a chance to win again,” Mary Trump said.

Shortly after the debate, Harris' campaign announced their intention to capitalize on the vice president's strong performance on Tuesday and hold another debate with Trump, who posted on his Truth Social site the following day: “There will be no third debate!”

Mary Trump said her uncle's actions after the debate showed he “knew he lost the debate.”

“He knows he's going to lose the next debate and the only way to get him back to debate is by being desperate,” she said.

She argued that it was “undeniable” that Trump had a terrible night compared to Harris, with the vice president goading Trump throughout the event, causing him to incoherently talk, yell and avoid eye contact.

“On the one hand, I think this is one of the reasons why Trump went to the spin room. He thinks he can change public opinion just by showing up,” Mary Trump said.

Whatever the former president was hoping to accomplish by going to the spin room, Mary Trump said she thought agreeing to a new debate with Harris would be “the stupidest thing” her uncle could do.

“I guess I'll see him again when he's in the mood,” she said.

Trump campaign spokesman Stephen Chang denied Mary Trump's comments in a statement to The Hill.

“As President Trump said, he completely dominated Kamala Harris on the debate stage. She was so thoroughly defeated that as soon as the debate ended she begged for another debate because she lost so badly,” Chang said.
