Maryland Man Allegedly Assaults Woman Hours After Release

A man from Maryland was reportedly released without bail only to return to the same woman he allegedly assaulted earlier, inflicting further harm, according to local authorities.

James Bowman III, aged 40, was taken into custody for domestic assault on November 7 in Waldorf, after he allegedly punched a woman in the face and bit her on the hand, as detailed by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. Following his arrest, a district court judge allowed Bowman to leave the Charles County Jail on his own recognizance, which means he didn’t have to pay bail. He was instructed not to contact or harm the woman again.

However, just an hour after his release, officials claim he returned to the victim’s home and assaulted her again while she was holding an infant. The woman managed to call 911 and retreated to a bedroom, locking the door behind her, but Bowman forced it open, according to police reports. The call for help came in around 12:52 a.m. on November 8.

As the confrontation escalated, the sheriff’s office reported that Bowman allegedly continued to assault the woman even as she tried to place her toddler on a nearby bed, reportedly hitting the child in the forehead.

This second incident occurred merely six hours after the initial accusations of assault against him, authorities stated.

The woman in this case was described as having visible injuries and being covered in blood when help arrived. Following these events, Bowman has been charged with assault and child abuse. A judge subsequently ordered him to be held without bond.
