A woman allegedly escalated a dispute at a Taco Bell by challenging employees to “meet me outside,” revealing a handgun when she did so, as reported by Maryland lawmakers.
Ashley Andrews, 30, was taken into custody on June 18 after police were dispatched to the Taco Bell in Chester, Maryland, regarding an incident involving a customer displaying a firearm during a confrontation with staff, according to the Queen Anne County Sheriff’s Office.
Workers at the restaurant stated that Andrews grew frustrated with the delay in receiving her order and threatened employees, suggesting they take the argument outside while showing off her handgun.
When officers arrived, they detained Andrews along with another individual from her group who was involved in the ongoing argument.
A loaded gun was reportedly found on Andrews at the time of her arrest.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage as well as personal videos taken by the employees, which appeared to support their account, noted the sheriff’s office. The footage showcased Andrews lifting her shirt to reveal the gun while continuing to argue with employees.
This confrontation took place at a Taco Bell located in the Kent Town Market Shopping Center on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
In light of the incident, a loaded firearm was determined to be recovered from Andrews. Initially held on $5,000 bail, she managed to post it and was released the following day, according to court records.
She faces charges that include second-degree assault, use of a handgun against a person, disorderly conduct, and reckless endangerment. Additionally, authorities have barred her from entering the Taco Bell premises.
According to reports, Andrews is currently working with a public defender and intends to pursue a speedy trial, with her next court appearance scheduled for July.
