In a shocking incident captured on video, two masked individuals robbed a 49-year-old man at gunpoint on a Chicago sidewalk in broad daylight. The disturbing footage, shared widely, shows the victim crouched down in Fulton Market while one thief hovered over him with a gun aimed at his head. Meanwhile, the second robber seized the man’s belongings before escaping in a Range Rover.
The crime occurred around 4:23 p.m. as the victim was approached by the suspects on a sidewalk in the 200 block of North Peoria Street, according to authorities. At least one of the assailants brandished a firearm and demanded property from the victim, while the other reportedly assaulted him.
It’s been noted that the robbers managed to escape with parts of the victim’s possessions. However, what exactly was taken remains unclear, and the victim declined medical assistance on the spot.
Currently, Chicago police are pursuing the case, but the suspects have not yet been apprehended. Business owners in the Fulton Market area are urging for increased police patrols and additional surveillance cameras, hoping to deter such violent crimes in the upscale district.
This popular neighborhood has been identified as a recurring site for armed robberies over the years. Alderman Walter Barnett, representing Ward 27, described the incident as isolated, expressing relief that no serious injuries occurred. He stated that public safety is essential for the district and noted his discussion with local police officials about enhancing their presence following the robbery.
