Midnight Encounter with a Masked Man in South Philadelphia
A Philadelphia homeowner, hoping to spot a creature outside, instead encountered a mysterious masked figure late at night.
Security footage captured a man lurking on the roof deck of a home in South Philadelphia, seemingly searching for a way inside. An unnamed woman recounted the moment, saying, “I found out that there was a man on my roof at 2 a.m. from Friday night to Saturday morning.”
The unexpected visitor was seen quietly navigating around the patio furniture before retreating behind a wall, perhaps to scout the area.
Residents felt a mix of fear and violation after witnessing the man’s unusual behavior. One neighbor expressed, “I definitely don’t recognize him. It looked like he was checking a window or something.”
Some locals speculated that the intruder might have accessed the rooftop through a broken gate that led to a nearby alley.
Bill Fitch, a neighboring resident, observed the man making eye contact with him around the same time as the recorded footage. “I thought maybe he’s just a guy on a rooftop in the middle of the night,” he noted. Upon closer inspection, he realized the man bore the appearance of a potential burglar.
Fitch detailed, “I could clearly see him on the roof, wearing a ski mask and shining a flashlight, trying to break into something. It looked like he was checking a window.” He promptly called 911, but by the time the police arrived, the man had vanished.
This unsettling experience has led Fitch to reflect on neighborhood safety. “I feel like he’s coming back. I feel really paranoid,” he admitted. The residents have taken precautions, locking doors and placing bikes in front of entrances just in case of another intrusion.
The woman who captured the footage has since put up a “no trespassing” sign on the roof to deter any future unwanted visitors.
In response to the incident, Philadelphia police have launched an investigation into the matter as a potential case of trespassing.
