Masked Suspects Assaulted Attendees At Hofstra University Graduation

Masked suspects assaulted a father and alumnus outside Hofstra University on Wednesday, according to the New York Post.

A masked assailant slashed a high school graduate and his father during a Hofstra University graduation ceremony. according to According to the New York Post, the incident happened shortly after Academy Charter High School’s graduation ceremony at Hofstra University’s David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex in Hempstead. Police and school officials said the attack happened around 4:20 p.m. as families were leaving the ceremony.

The attacker first targeted the father, slashing him in the leg. A graduating senior who tried to intervene suffered a cut to his left ear. Both victims were immediately hospitalized. The relationship between the two is unclear, the media outlet reported. Authorities have arrested five people in connection with the attack. The suspects, who were wearing masks at the time, are believed to have been involved in a domestic dispute that escalated outside the university campus, police told school officials.

“All students who entered the ceremony passed through a magnetic detector. We emphasize that this incident occurred outside of the graduation venue,” Academy Charter High School said in a statement, according to the New York Post.

According to the New York Post, the school is actively working with Nassau County Police and Hofstra University Public Safety to respond to the incident and ensure the safety of all in attendance.
