Tyler Robinson Returns to Court Over Charlie Kirk’s Death
PROVO, Utah — Last week, surveillance footage played a pivotal role in the prosecution of Tyler Robinson, a man charged with the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. This video footage, presented during Robinson’s preliminary hearing, allegedly outlines his movements at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025, from his arrival on campus to his actions surrounding Kirk’s murder.
David Hull, an agent with the Utah Bureau of Investigation, testified about how investigators reviewed campus surveillance to track an individual on the roof of the Losey Student Success Center, which prosecutors claim is where the deadly incident occurred.
Case Overview
The video, while not explicitly capturing the shooting, purportedly shows a figure identified as Robinson gaining rooftop access. Prosecutors allege he moved to the building’s edge, took position, and left soon after the gunfire.
Robinson, facing charges of aggravated murder, has not yet entered a plea. Prosecutors are pursuing the death penalty. The preliminary hearing was essentially a procedure to confirm whether there is sufficient evidence for trial.
Timeline of Events
September 10, around 8:30 a.m.: Investigators believe a vehicle registered to Robinson was seen in the university parking lot. Hull noted this vehicle matched records and had unique wheels. The driver, identified as Robinson, then entered the campus dressed in a red or maroon T-shirt and gray or olive shorts.
After 10 a.m.: Robinson reportedly returned on foot, donned in the same outfit but now with a blue backpack. He was later seen at a Chick-fil-A within the campus, where he purchased food before moving through a wooded area.
Hull mentioned how Robinson made his way from the amphitheater area, encountered representatives from Kirk’s organization, and then returned to a parking garage before leaving again.
Before 11 a.m.: Robinson is said to have traversed the Gunther and Computer Science buildings to access the rooftop of the Rothesay Center. He exited the campus shortly before 11 a.m.
Around 12:15 p.m.: Hull testified that Robinson reappeared on campus in different clothing yet the same footwear, allegedly appearing to walk with a limp.
The footage shows Robinson moving towards the roof access and, around 12:23 p.m., being seen preparing for the shooting. He was observed lying face down just moments before the shots rang out.
Afterward, Hull relayed that Robinson was seen getting off the roof and heading towards Campus Drive, seemingly with something in his hand.
Interestingly, while analysts noted an object possibly resembling a firearm, Hull confessed during cross-examination that he couldn’t clearly identify it on the video. They also found no visible limp or abnormal walk following the shooting.
Other Findings
Investigators managed to locate a firearm in a wooded area linked to Robinson, who had been seen entering it on multiple occasions. On the morning after the shooting, Robinson’s vehicle was caught on surveillance near Campus Drive, leading to further scrutiny of his movements.
During a subsequent exchange, a police officer interacted with someone believed to be Robinson, collecting vehicle information that later led investigators back to him.
Hearing Updates
Judge Tony Graff issued sanctions against media members after errors occurred in the exhibition of footage during the hearing. He indicated that he would be cautious moving forward regarding exhibit presentation.
The judge scheduled a follow-up discussion on the preliminary hearing’s evidence for September 1. Meanwhile, Kirk’s family urged the court not to delay justice, citing a pressing need for a fair trial as the anniversary of Kirk’s death approaches.
Family attorneys asserted that while Robinson deserves justice, the legal process should not face undue delays. They emphasize that swift action is critical for ensuring justice in this high-profile case.
