Mass shooting in upstate New York park leaves 1 dead, several injured

A shooting at a large gathering in Rochester, New York, on Sunday evening left one person dead and at least six injured.

Rochester Police Department Capt. Greg Bello told reporters that police responded to Maplewood Park around 6:20 p.m. on Sunday after reports of shots fired during a large gathering.

When officers arrived on scene they found multiple people had been shot.

The investigation is still fluid, but Bello said one person was shot to death and at least six others suffered gunshot wounds.

Bello said six people were taken to local hospitals, at least one with serious, life-threatening injuries.

Four shot in ‘broad daylight’ near downtown Louisville

The murder victim, identified by police only as an adult in his 20s, has not been given any additional information about the victim as investigators are notifying next of kin and family.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the crime scene, including Irondequoit Police, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Rochester Police and New York State Police, Rochester First reported.

Police are urging anyone with video or photos of the incident to contact investigators through the Major Crimes Unit or Crime Stoppers rather than posting them on social media, and they are also urging anyone with information to call 311 or 911.
