Massachusetts man dies after rescue from New Hampshire hike by Black Hawk helicopter

A Massachusetts man was transported by Blackhawk helicopter after receiving emergency treatment while hiking in a remote area with his family.

The New Hampshire Department of Fish and Wildlife said in a news release that they received a call around 2:14 p.m. Tuesday about a 52-year-old man experiencing a medical emergency between two peaks on Kinsman Ridge Trail in the White Mountains of the state.

The trail is about four miles from the nearest trailhead, making it difficult to carry out a quick rescue effort, the department said.

Because of the hikers’ remote location, the New Hampshire Army National Guard deployed a Black Hawk helicopter to assist in rescue efforts.

Emergency crews reached the 52-year-old hiker just before 4 p.m.
