Authorities say the Massachusetts mother plunged into her death in front of three horrifying children while her family hiked at the natural landmark on Wednesday.
The married mother of 49-year-old Carolyn Sanger dropped 50-75 feet in a purgatory state preserve at about 2pm. According to Sutton Police and report.
“We believe it was simply a loss of foothold and travel,” says family friend Tim Paris He told Boston 25.
“That particular part of the trail, my understanding is that it’s the scary part of the trail. I don’t think she’s doing her phone or anything like that.”
Medical experts who were hiking in the area also tried to provide assistance, but were declared that Sanger, from Topsfield, had died at the scene, authorities said.
Investigators are investigating the scene, but believe that Aki is a coincidence.
“For those who knew Carrie, I know she is a bright light. She is a wonderful, selfless mother who raised four incredibly respected responsible children,” their loved ones said in a GoFundme post.
“She is all her friend and her smile and kind spirit will be greatly overlooked. She passed away too early.
Sanger worked as an oncology nurse before pivoting to open a wellness business, according to the fundraising page.
“She’s an amazing, amazing person,” says her husband, Michael Sanger. I told WCVB.
“She was the brightness and light of a dark day for many.”
The couple met at university and were scheduled to mark their 20-year marriage in September.
