Massachusetts Police Encounter Mystery on Beach

It wasn’t exactly a typical weekend at the beach.

Wednesday morning, Massachusetts State Police were caught off guard after receiving reports of what was initially described as a “unmanned death” at one of the state’s well-frequented beaches.

Police arrived at Libya Beach, located about six miles northwest of Boston, around 10:30 AM to investigate the concerning report.

Videos from bystanders showed police officials on the beach surrounded by yellow tape, marking off a significant area along the shoreline, while another officer ventured into the ocean.

Some footage even captured the police boats stationed farther offshore.

Initially, police stated they were responding to what they believed to be dead bodies wrapped in sheets on the beach, as reported by local news outlets. However, upon closer inspection, the ominous discovery turned out to be just a large blanket.

Sergeant Gregory Jones later confirmed this to be the case, noting, “It has been confirmed that the item in question is a large blanket. There was no body of the type reported.”

While it’s still unclear how the blanket ended up on the beach, some wonder if it was left there by beachgoers the night before.

The local authorities have directed all further inquiries to the Massachusetts District Attorney’s Office.

In a separate incident earlier this month in Idaho, law enforcement spent hours searching a river for reported bodies, only to discover a life-size doll floating downstream. They had even deployed drones in the search, illustrating how seriously they took the report.

In the end, authorities expressed no regrets about their efforts, emphasizing that it was better to err on the side of caution, especially considering how tragic it would be if someone genuinely needed help.
