Massie Earns $2.5 Million In Q1 As Trump Intensifies Primary Battle

Kentucky Rep. Massie’s Strong Fundraising Amid Primary Challenge

Kentucky’s Republican Rep. Thomas Massie raised over $2.5 million in the first quarter of 2026, as reported by the Daily Caller.

Among his 20,665 contributors during this period, around 76% were new donors. Specifically, Massie received about $190,399 from 993 donors in Kentucky, with 401 of those coming from his 4th Congressional District. These fundraising results emerge as he prepares for a primary challenge on May 19 from former Navy SEAL Ed Gullane, who has the support of President Donald Trump. Massie and Trump have had a tumultuous relationship since the latter took office again in January 2025.

Massie claimed to the Caller that his fundraising was achieved “without paying fees to consultants or anyone,” highlighting the grassroots nature of his campaign. “Being the top target has its pressures, but it also rallies a lot of support around me,” he mentioned.

In his ongoing campaign cycle, Massie has raised a total of $4,932,036 from 32,809 contributors, including nearly $312,000 from 1,545 Kentuckians. He pointed out that most donations came from smaller donors, with an average contribution of $94.

“Our typical donation is under $100. These folks have hope that we can fix things, and they place that hope in me. It’s a big responsibility. If I lose, it feels like a lot of Americans will lose that hope,” he noted. He argued that while major donors can be swayed by pressure, those who contribute from the grassroots level, who “go to work every day,” aren’t as easily intimidated.

Massie’s opposition to President Trump’s agenda has increased tensions between them. His dissent on the “Big and Beautiful Bill,” which called for transparency in the Epstein case and opposed U.S. involvement in the Iranian conflict, elicited criticism from Trump, who referred to Massie in less-than-flattering terms during an event in his district earlier this year.

Aligning himself with the “America First” ideology, Massie expressed concern that the MAGA movement is fracturing, with some voters feeling unwelcome. He mentioned that many of his opponent’s donors are not genuinely aligned with “America First” values.

Massey’s focus remains on maintaining a Republican majority and building coalitions, especially as divisions within the party continue to grow. “The party seems to be losing strength, and I’ve made it clear that if I lose, it could alienate a significant portion of the coalition that helped us gain the majority and the White House,” he stated.

Gullane has accused Massie of receiving support from non-Kentucky donors who have historically backed Democratic causes. He referenced a report highlighting that a large majority of Gullane’s top contributors have also supported Democratic candidates.

During a conversation with the Caller while driving through rural Kentucky, Massie noted that Gullane has backed out of five debate opportunities, including an event that would have allowed both candidates to answer questions for a short period.

“My opponent hasn’t shown up to six forums or debates,” Massie pointed out, emphasizing his commitment to engaging with constituents and voters.

Massie mentioned that his team would focus on increasing television advertising and expanding their outreach to include not only reliable primary voters but also those who are newly registered or haven’t voted before. He remarked that the campaign recently began advertising in the Huntington-Charleston Media Market.

As the primary date approaches, the strategies and identities of candidates in the race will be put to the test. Massie lamented the inaction in Congress and committed to being a vocal presence, stating, “People are yearning for someone to speak up; I will push for votes and address the issues that others avoid. It might not always be easy, but people are hungry for that kind of honesty.”

Gullane officially launched his campaign against Massie in October 2025, crucially stating that this district is a stronghold for Trump, and asserting that he aims to support the president’s agenda rather than create obstacles in Congress.
