Masters champion boldly uses victory to point to his Christian faith: ‘My victory was secure on the cross’

Scottie Scheffler is now a two-time Masters champion.

After his big four-stroke victory on Sunday, the 27-year-old golfer, who is also the No. 1 ranked player in the world, used his moment in the spotlight to highlight the victory he earned through faith. In Jesus Christ.

“I was sitting with my guys this morning and I was feeling a little overwhelmed, so I said to them, ‘I wish we hadn’t won this badly or this badly. I think that would make the morning easier.’ It’s easy,” Scheffler told reporters.

“And this morning my companions told me that my victory was assured on the cross,” he continued. “And it’s a pretty special feeling to know that I’m safe forever. And it doesn’t matter whether I win or lose this tournament. My identity is safe forever.”

Scheffler further explained that he believes that “the plans for today were already in place many years ago, and there was nothing I could do to disrupt them.”

“I’ve been given this gift of talent and I’m using it for the glory of God and that’s it,” he added.

And Scheffler said that despite being the world’s top golfer for more than two years in a row, his golf career has been “infinitely unsatisfying,” and that at the end of the day, his golf career is as important as his family, friends, and faith. That’s because it’s not, he said.

“Right now I’m just thinking about going home. I’m not thinking about the tournament. I’m not thinking about the Green Jacket,” he said of his wife, who is about to give birth to their first child.

“I think at the end of the day, that’s how the human mind works. You always want more, but I think you have to fight those and focus on the good,” he explained. “Because like I said, winning this golf tournament doesn’t change my identity. My identity is secure and I can’t stress that enough.”

Scheffler is clearly a devout Christian. He talks about his beliefs on professional golf’s biggest stage.

According to CBS News, his beliefs are probably the reason he’s currently taking the professional golf world by storm. observed:

The freedom that Scheffler’s beliefs provide, the peace of mind knowing that all you need to do that week is do your best, is a quality that professional golfers strive to achieve through a myriad of psychological tricks, coaches, and techniques.

Having this belief system built into the best players on the planet is an extraordinary advantage. In fact, that’s one of the reasons he’s the best player on the planet.

“I’m a faithful man. I believe in the Creator. I believe in Jesus. I think at the end of the day, that’s what most characterizes me,” Scheffler said before the Masters last week.
