Matt Damon makes rare appearance with family ahead of daughter’s ‘surreal’ departure for college

Matt Damon was surrounded by a bevy of beautiful women at the premiere of his new film, “The Instigators,” in New York City on Wednesday.

The Massachusetts-born actor was joined on the red carpet by all five of his leading ladies, his wife Luciana, and their four daughters Alexia (Luciana’s child from a previous relationship), Isabella, 18, Gia, 15, and Stella, 13.

In one photo, Damon is seen reaching out to hold his daughter Gia’s hand as he is led off the carpet by his wife, who is still partially visible in the photo as he looks back at his two older daughters.

Damon and his wife both produced the film, which was co-written by longtime friends and Boston natives Casey Affleck and Chuck McLean. Damon and Affleck also star in an Apple TV+ movie starring rapper Jack Harlow and Affleck’s girlfriend, Caylee Cowan.

The rare red carpet appearance came shortly after Damon spoke candidly about sending his eldest daughter, Isabella, off to college.

“For relatively new parents, it happens so quickly,” he said, referring to Chau, who gave birth in late 2020.

To prepare himself for the emotional toll, Damon said he turned to people who had already been through the same thing. “I called my friends and asked them how they coped and what happened,” he said.

Isabella will be attending New York University in the fall. She and her father seem to have a strained relationship, with Damon previously saying she is disinterested in his job.

In 2023,Late Night with Seth MeyersDamon told the talk show host how Isabella loved to make fun of him.

“[She] “She loves to make things difficult for me, and she’s made it very clear that if she thinks something I’m in is good, she doesn’t want to see it,” he said. “If I get bad reviews for something… that’s what she wants to see.”

Damon gave an amusing example, admitting that the 2016 film “The Great Wall” was “not very good.”

“My daughter was talking to one of her friends and she was talking about this movie. ‘My dad did this movie, ‘The Wall.'” She kept calling it ‘The Wall.’ And I finally said, ‘Isabella, the name of the movie is…’The Great Wall.And she said, ‘Dad, there’s nothing great about that movie,'” he said.
