The 29-year-old comedian recently spoke out in defense of the 27-year-old “Euphoria” star, particularly after she promoted American Eagle jeans and a bar soap dubbed “bathwater.”

“I keep seeing people go wild over Sydney Sweeney,” he posted on X last Friday, responding to a tweet surrounding the controversy over Sweeney’s bathwater soap.

“She’s figuring out that the internet’s filled with complete losers. People can be really awful,” he added.

Sweeney has been navigating the fallout of her bathwater advertising campaign, which thrust her into yet another social media stir.

“I think it’s important to engage with what people are discussing, as it’s all about connecting with the audience,” she stated in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal.

Reflecting on the criticism, she mentioned finding humor in it, noting that a girl had commented on how much she liked the concept of Jacob Elordi’s bathwater.

In the film “Saltburn,” Barry Keoghan’s character drinks bathwater, leading fans to create a “bathwater candle” inspired by the scene.

Sweeney also addressed negative reactions to her American Eagle partnership, where critics claimed the ad—featuring the phrase “Great Jeans for Sydney Sweeney”—sent harmful messages related to race and beauty standards.

“Genes are passed from parents to kids, determining traits like hair color or personality,” she explained in an American Eagle video. “My jeans are blue,” she added, aiming to clarify the message.

American Eagle issued a statement defending their campaign, emphasizing, “This campaign is about jeans—her jeans and her story. We celebrate how everyone can wear AE jeans with confidence.”

While some celebrities, such as Lizzo and Doja Cat, mockingly engaged with the situation on social media, others like Dr. Phil and former President Donald Trump stepped in to support Sweeney against the backlash.

Interestingly, American Eagle’s stock price surged by more than 10% soon after the campaign’s launch on July 23rd.

Sweeney has mostly refrained from directly commenting on the ongoing controversy.
