Salvini Plans Event in Response to Charlie Kirk’s Death
Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini announced plans to hold an event similar to those organized by Charlie Kirk in Italy, calling Kirk’s assassination a pivotal moment that deeply resonated with him.
On a post shared on X, Salvini highlighted the “murder of Charlie Kirk and the shocking reactions from certain leftist groups.” He expressed a desire to discuss the necessity for dialogue amid rising hostility, revealing that he would focus on the comune in Pontida as his first stop next Sunday.
In addition, he shared a quote from a recent interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera, stating, “Charlie’s murder marks a turning point, and Pontida will evolve. I want to address the schools.”
Salvini remarked, “What’s happening has impacted me like never before in my 30 years of experience. There’s a clear before and after this incident.” He further reflected on the reactions it prompted, noting the mixed emotions of prayerful gatherings by students on various campuses contrasted with an outpouring of anger and bitterness.
He clarified, “I won’t say it’s representative of all leftists; there are extreme views everywhere. But I’ve never witnessed satisfaction over the loss of a young father like this—at least not since the Dark Ages.”
Salvini continued, stating that this could be a significant historical moment, as Charlie Kirk’s widow mentioned, yet he felt hopeful seeing students pray together. He pondered rhetorically whether the critiques directed at Kirk justified the violence against him.
He concluded by warning that if some factions on the left condone violence against critics, it may lead to troubling times ahead.
