Disgruntled Patriots defensive end Matthew Judon appears to agree with fans who think the team should trade him to the 49ers.
On Saturday, a self-described Patriots fan from user X posted, New England suggested sending Judon. They then sent a second-round pick to San Francisco in exchange for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and a fifth-round pick.
Judon reposted the tweet, seemingly endorsing the idea.
Judon has been posting cryptic comments about his contract situation with the Patriots all summer.
In early July, he posted a “SpongeBob Squarepants” meme that read, “I’m heading out.”
However, he responded to a report from the Boston Sports Journal after Greg Bedard said Judon wouldn’t play for the Patriots under his current contract.
“Before everyone blames me, I never said that. Don’t ever make me the bad guy,” Judon wrote to X at the time.
Judon, who turns 32 in August, played the first five years of his NFL career with the Ravens before spending the past three seasons with the Patriots.
He struggled with injuries last season and appeared in just four games, but in 2022 he recorded 15.5 sacks.
Aiyuk, a talented wide receiver, requested a trade from the Niners last week after the two sides were unable to progress on a long-term contract.
The Patriots were able to utilize him because Bill Belichick struggled to draft and develop at the position toward the end of his legendary tenure with the team.
Meanwhile, over on the Niners side, Judon would form a fearsome pass-rush duo with Nick Bosa, but San Francisco is facing salary-cap crunch.
The team has spent big on Bosa, offensive lineman Trent Williams, running back Christian McCaffrey and wide receiver Deebo Samuel, with quarterback Brock Purdy also likely in line for a big contract in the next year or two.
