Ozzy Osbourne’s Memoir Reveals Connection with Matthew Perry
In his posthumous memoir, “The Last Ritual,” the late Ozzy Osbourne disclosed that Matthew Perry, known for his role on “Friends,” once attended an anonymous alcoholics meeting at Osbourne’s house. Osbourne, who struggled with substance abuse for years, mentioned that Perry found solace in his Beverly Hills home while grappling with his own drinking issues.
“He used to come to our house for an AA meeting,” Osbourne wrote, as reported by various outlets. His sentiments reflect a sense of camaraderie in the battle against addiction.
Osbourne, who passed away in July at 76, spoke highly of Perry, describing him as “the most interesting and most talented bloke.” He recalled Perry’s efforts to stay sober, mentioning that, unfortunately, there came a moment when Perry succumbed to his addiction.
Osbourne expressed sorrow upon learning that Perry had become unresponsive due to a ketamine overdose. He reflected on the difficult realities of addiction, expressing feelings of sadness for Perry’s struggles.
Osbourne also shared insights from his own experiences with addiction, including a challenging period in 2012 when he struggled with drinking once again. He highlighted the importance of support, recalling how anonymous meetings often played a significant role in his journey toward recovery.
In his memoir, Osbourne’s wife, Sharon, recounted her own attempts to manage use of ketamine under medical care before realizing it was reigniting old habits. Perry’s passing in October 2023 at the age of 54 following an accidental ketamine overdose tragically underscores the ongoing battle many face with addiction. His struggles, too, were laid bare in his own memoir, “Friends, Lovers and the Great Terrifying Things.”
