Matthew Tkachuk shares if winning Olympic gold is more meaningful than the Stanley Cup victory

Matthew Tkachuk Reflects on Achievements in Hockey

During a recent appearance on “Hangout with Sean Hannity,” Team USA hockey player Matthew Tkachuk discussed the challenges of comparing his Olympic success to winning the Stanley Cup. Tkachuk, who had consecutive seasons winning the NHL’s top accolade with the Florida Panthers, remarked on how physically demanding the Stanley Cup is, emphasizing that it’s “the hardest trophy to win in sports.”

“When you lift the cup at the end of the game and your body is torn to shreds, you really understand the difficulty of winning,” he shared. “It feels special to have your name engraved on such a historic trophy.”

Beyond the trophy, Tkachuk felt a profound connection to the support he received while representing the United States during the recent Winter Olympics in Milan. He noted how some fans, who had never watched hockey before, tuned in because of the patriotic spirit displayed by the team.

“I met someone who only started watching because they appreciated how we represented our country, and now they’re huge fans,” he added, highlighting the broader impact of their victory over Canada, which marked a historic moment for U.S. hockey after 46 years.

At 28, Tkachuk is also navigating personal milestones. Married for about a year, he and his wife, Ellie, are excitedly expecting their first child. They’ve chosen to wait until birth to discover the baby’s gender.

“We haven’t figured it out yet,” he laughed, mentioning their “old-school approach” to the baby’s gender. Thinking ahead, Tkachuk expressed his hope for a son to carry on his hockey legacy. “I definitely want to have a boy someday,” he noted, playfully imagining taking his future child out on the ice.

Tkachuk’s enthusiasm extends to the prospect of youth hockey in the future. “I think I’ll be more excited about youth hockey than I am about professional hockey right now,” he remarked, looking forward to family outings and the simple joys of watching his child grow in the sport.

The full discussion between Tkachuk and Hannity will air on Thursday’s episode of “Hangout with Sean Hannity.”
