Concerns Rise Over Max Domi’s Surgery and Future with Maple Leafs

Recent revelations regarding Max Domi’s offseason surgery have sparked worries about his hockey career. Just last week, the Maple Leafs shocked fans by announcing that Domi would be out indefinitely due to post-surgery complications. The Toronto Sun reported on Sunday that something had gone “horribly wrong” during the procedure.

According to Simmons, Domi’s struggle to walk after the surgery has raised “significant concerns,” leaving his status for the upcoming season uncertain.

Interestingly, it appears Domi opted for his own surgeon rather than going with the Maple Leafs’ preferred choice.

As of now, neither the Maple Leafs nor Domi’s representatives have commented on this new information from the tabloid. Initially, the team disclosed on May 25 that Domi underwent surgery to address “an issue” he played through during the previous season but did not specify the exact injury.

The Toronto Sun later indicated it was related to a back injury.

The team’s statement noted that, “Domi will continue to work with the club’s medical staff and will be re-evaluated at the start of training camp.” Domi still has two years remaining on his four-year, $15 million contract signed with the Leafs in 2024.

For context, Domi is the son of former NHL enforcer Ty Domi, who famously spent 12 seasons with the Maple Leafs. Last season, Domi netted 12 goals and accumulated 36 points in 80 games, but unfortunately, the Leafs missed the playoffs, leading to significant organizational changes.

The team recently fired general manager Brad Treliving, replacing him with head coach Craig Berube, and has controversially brought John Chayka on board as the new GM.
