Max Homa Enjoys Break from Social Media
Max Homa, a six-time PGA Tour winner, is finding his time away from social media quite refreshing.
At 35, Homa previously attracted a significant online following by humorously critiquing fans’ golf swings. He left the platform X last year and described the shift as “fantastic.”
“I still like TikTok. Honestly, I’m a bit of a kid at heart. Instagram is fun too, but Twitter/X? That’s a whole different story,” he shared in a conversation related to Arcutis’ Free to Be Me campaign.
“I really like looking back on it as something addictive,” he noted.
Growing up with platforms like MySpace and Facebook, Homa recognizes that social media is woven into his identity. He tried to overlook negative comments, realizing mean people exist everywhere. However, a chat with a friend shifted his perspective.
“He said, if you’re at a party and someone says something you don’t like, you’d leave, right? And I thought, ‘Oh, yeah, you’re right,'” Homa reflected.
Despite occasionally missing aspects like staying updated with sports news, Homa feels he can find important updates when they matter. “If I have a friend who has had a baby, I’ll check it out. If there’s something significant happening in the world, I’ll look it up,” he explained.
He even recalled last year’s Luka Doncic trade situation. “Once that trade fell through, I received about eight to ten texts. Back when I wasn’t glued to social media, I would think, if something’s important, I’ll hear about it,” he said.
Moving away from X has been liberating for him, and he doesn’t miss it at all.
“I think more people should focus on themselves,” Homa remarked. “I don’t need negativity about how terrible everything is, especially in golf. It’s something you can manage yourself.”
Homa’s accolades include victories at the Wells Fargo Championship (2019), the Genesis Invitational and Fortinet Championship (2021), and a repeat win at the Wells Fargo Championship and Fortinet Championship in 2022, along with the Farmers Insurance Open in 2023.
