Mayor Wu of Boston addresses Trump's threat regarding the FIFA World Cup

Boston Mayor Responds to Trump’s World Cup Remarks

Boston’s Mayor, Michelle Wu, has reacted to President Donald Trump’s warning about possibly relocating FIFA World Cup matches planned for next year in the city.

In a statement, Wu expressed her enthusiasm: “Boston is honored and excited to host the World Cup games, and we look forward to welcoming fans from around the world to our beautiful city, the cradle of freedom and the city of champions.”

The city is slated to host seven matches during the World Cup, which returns to North America next summer. This includes five group stage matches, one round of 32 game, and the first quarterfinal on July 9.

On Tuesday, Trump addressed the media regarding violent protests happening in Boston, which had recently disrupted one of the streets, suggesting that the games could potentially be moved from the city.

According to law enforcement, over 100 individuals participated in a street racing incident early on October 5. Some individuals were reportedly trying to damage police vehicles with various objects. A police cruiser was significantly damaged in the chaos.

Trump mentioned, “We can take them away. I love the people of Boston, and I know the game is sold out, but the mayor is not good. There are worse mayors than her. At least she’s intelligent. You know, some people have extremely low IQs. Those bother me more. She’s intelligent, but she’s a radical leftist.” He went on to suggest that he might contact FIFA President Gianni Infantino regarding the situation.

“The answer is yes. If I felt that someone was doing something wrong and there was a dangerous situation, I would call Gianni, the president of FIFA. He is a phenomenal person. I would say, ‘Let’s move it somewhere else.’ And he would do it. He doesn’t want to do it, but he would do it. He would do it very easily. And now is the right time to do it,” Trump stated.

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey also confronted the recent violence in the city, emphasizing her commitment to resolving the issue firmly.

“This is my message today: No more. That doesn’t happen here. If you do that, you’ll be punished. I’m serious,” Healey added.
