Zohran Mamdani’s Lavish Wedding Celebration in Uganda

New York City’s Democratic mayoral candidate, Zohran Mamdani, recently marked his wedding with a three-day celebration in Uganda, complete with heavy security and a mobile phone jamming system. This exclusive event took place on private property in a wealthy region, away from the capital, Kampala.

Mamdani, who recently fled to the U.S. with his wife, Rama Duwaj, an illustrator previously living in Queens, hosted the festivities guarded by over 20 special forces members. Reports indicate there were some masked guards and a telephone jamming system in use. It was noted that one of the gates had around nine security personnel stationed.

Interestingly, there was also a somber note during the celebration as it coincided with the mourning of former Ugandan Supreme Court Judge George Kaniehanba, a family friend who passed away earlier this month.

On social media, Mamdani posted a video stating he was “back to Uganda” to celebrate his marriage with family and friends, injecting humor into the post festivities. Various vehicles, including buses and luxury cars, transported guests to the event, where they enjoyed music and dancing.

One neighbor expressed concern that celebrating such a significant event was “insensitive” given the recent loss in the community. During the celebration, the street was temporarily blocked for a visit from Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, who came to pay his respects.

The Mamdani family resides on a two-acre property with views of Lake Victoria, located in a prestigious area known as Bhujigahir. Notably, Mamdani’s father is a professor at Columbia University, and his mother works as a film director. They are surrounded by notable figures, including local billionaire businessman Godfrey Kilmira.

Mamdani, who was born in Uganda and became a U.S. citizen seven years ago after moving to New York at the age of seven, had recently made headlines by winning the Democratic primary for mayor in the city. While his victory is significant, many establishments within the Democratic Party still seem cautious about embracing socialist candidates.

The U.S. State Department has also issued warnings to American citizens about potential dangers in Uganda, particularly concerning laws targeting individuals based on their sexual orientation.
