Riley's killer, an illegal alien gang member released into the United States, was sentenced Wednesday.
Hours before Mayorkas and Wray were scheduled to testify before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, their offices announced they would not appear at the hearing, Breitbart News reported.
Committee member Marshall said the refusal to testify was disrespectful to Angell's family, who lost a loved one to illegal immigration.
“This is a slap in the face to the families of Laken Riley, Rachel Morin, and 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungarey. Their utter incompetence and inability to do the most basic job of keeping our country safe. “My life was shattered because of it,” Marshall said.
“They should be summoned and held in contempt,” he said.

Ybarra was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
On the day Ibarra killed Riley, she was jogging on her frequently traveled route without incident. Riley was an avid runner and a student at Augusta University's School of Nursing.
When Riley didn't return after jogging, her roommate looked for her and called UGA police. Riley's body was found beaten in a wooded area on the UGA campus. The next day, Ybarra was arrested and charged with Riley's murder.
Ybarra crossed the U.S.-Mexico border near El Paso, Texas, on September 8, 2022. Mr. Biden and Mr. Harris' Department of Homeland Security paroled Mr. Ybarra and released him into the interior of the United States.
At a Senate hearing in April, Mr. Mayorkas argued that there was a lack of available detention space, even though more than 8,000 detention beds were available at the time, and that Mr. Ybarra's release to the interior of the United States was not possible. justified.

The same month he was released to the United States, Ybarra ended up in the sanctuary city of New York, New York, where he requested a “humanitarian flight” to Georgia.
In November 2023, just months before Riley's murder, Ybarra applied for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
On December 9, 2023, Ibarra's work permit application was approved.
In July 2023, before securing a work permit, Ybarra reported to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in New York City for a biometric appointment, where she was fingerprinted. The results of these fingerprints indicate that Ibarra had a past criminal history.
On September 14, 2023, Ibarra was arrested for conduct likely to endanger a child. Despite the accusations, Ibarra was not charged and the arrest was quashed.
