Former Louisiana Mayor Faces Rape Charges

The trial of Misty Roberts, a former mayor of DeRidder, Louisiana, is taking some shocking turns. Her children reported seeing her engaging in sexual acts with a 16-year-old boy during a pool party where drinks were flowing. This surfaced during testimony and the presentation of video evidence in court.

At 43 years old, Roberts is facing third-degree rape charges stemming from an incident that occurred in 2024. Her son recounted in his courtroom interview that he witnessed his mother with the boy through a window. However, when pressed for clarity, he seemed uncertain about what he had actually seen that night.

Alongside his testimony, the jury looked at disturbing photos from the party, which included images of children with drinks, as well as “lewd” pictures of Roberts and the victim. One photo showed Roberts in a bikini, smiling at the teenage boy.

In a moment of disbelief, Roberts’ son texted her that night, mentioning that his sister was in tears due to the events unfolding around them. He pointed out, “He’s 17 years old,” mistakenly believing the boy’s age, while the boy was confirmed to be 16.

Roberts’ daughter also testified, saying she observed her mother and the teen “on top of each other” during the party. Interestingly, a nephew of Roberts admitted to trying to sneak a peek using his phone, though he didn’t know if he had recorded any footage.

Throughout the trial, witnesses noted they didn’t see any of the private parts, but they did see the boy without a shirt. Afterward, the victim’s mother reached out to Roberts to check if her child might be pregnant. Roberts assured her she was on birth control and later shared this conversation in a group chat where friends suggested she take a Plan B.

In a twist involving a DoorDash driver, it turned out he delivered emergency contraceptives to Roberts’ home, which he recalled when he was out trick-or-treating with his kids.

Adding another layer of concern, documents presented in court revealed Roberts had asked her son what alcoholic beverages he and the other kids wanted for the party. Notably, she resigned from her position as mayor shortly after the police opened their investigation into her activities.

Roberts now faces charges for third-degree rape and contributing to the delinquency of a minor in this troubling case.
