Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Friday expressed his disgust with President Biden’s recent State of the Union address.
“He’s not speaking to the people; what he’s really doing is speaking to the party.” McCarthy Said He said this in an interview on Friday’s FOX News “Jesse Watters Prime Time,” which was featured by Mediaite.
“This was more about the tournament,” McCarthy continued. “I think he was worried that the Democratic Party would remove him as a candidate. That’s why he came out – he tried to show what every Democrat has – you know. Like, you’ve got to be tougher, you’ve got to be stronger, and all he did was look mean and angry.”
Biden delivered a fiery and energetic State of the Union address Thursday night. Current Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), who succeeded McCarthy in the role after McCarthy’s ouster and the turbulent period that followed, also expressed disapproval of the speech.
“People say I made funny faces. I tried to keep a poker face, but it was very difficult. I vehemently disagreed with a lot of what he said, and I think people back home did the same. ” Johnson told reporters after his speech.
“I think there’s a lot of memes going around tonight about my facial expressions. I didn’t like that speech, I don’t think the American public liked it either, and there wasn’t much I could do about it. I think I didn’t hide it very well,” Johnson told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
Biden also called out former President Trump, the likely Republican presidential nominee, during his speech, days after Trump’s last major rival in the Republican presidential primary, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, withdrew. I pursued it many times.
Biden began his speech by referring to President Trump’s recent comments about NATO, in which he suggested that if NATO allies didn’t spend enough on defense, he would let Russian President Vladimir Putin “do whatever he wanted.” It’s dangerous and unacceptable.” ”
