McDaniels pushes NBA MVP Gilgeous-Alexander as Thunder secures Game 2 victory

Oklahoma City Thunder Takes 2-0 Lead in Western Conference Finals

The Oklahoma City Thunder is now up 2-0 in the Western Conference Finals after defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves, 102-86, with just over six minutes left in the game. It’s worth noting that the New York Knicks recently showed a lead can be overcome, so there’s still plenty of basketball to play.

Frustration was apparent for the Timberwolves, especially after one of their players confronted the NBA MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, during the matchup.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who just the day before received a significant career accolade, found himself at the center of the chaos. Jaden McDaniels, in an attempt to assert himself, pushed Gilgeous-Alexander from behind, leading to a rather intense moment on the court. There was some physicality there, as a few players had to be separated.

After the game, McDaniels remarked that he wanted to “actually” foul the MVP. It felt like a statement about his competitiveness, perhaps a bit too aggressive, but not surprising given the playoff atmosphere.

The Thunder remained composed, winning decisively with contributions from Jalen Williams, who scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Chet Holmgren, who added 22 points. Despite a late push from Minnesota, which came within 10 in the final quarter, Oklahoma City maintained control.

On the Timberwolves’ side, Anthony Edwards had a notable game, scoring 32 points on 26 shots, while McDaniels added 22 and Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 17. It’s clear the Timberwolves are facing challenges, and with the playoff series moving to Minnesota, they’ll need to refocus and regroup.

As Game 3 approaches on Saturday, the stakes are high. It’s still early in the series, but the Thunder are looking strong, setting the stage for what should be an interesting next game.
