McDonald’s brings back bagels as breakfast staple

Thousands of McDonald’s restaurants have brought bagels back to their menus after McDonald’s discontinued its breakfast menu four years ago.

“I’ve heard from new owners that they’re selling more bagels in a day than they did in a week five years ago,” one franchisee told the Post. “It’s crazy, the nostalgia is real.”

But now, about a third of the roughly 14,000 U.S. stores have put it back on the menu, according to a franchisee who requested anonymity.

Fans welcomed the return on social media, with one Facebook group titled “Where’s the McDonald’s Bagel?” attracting more than 12,000 members.

The bagel craze comes as McDonald’s announced a partnership with Krispy Kreme to sell donuts at all of the fast food giant’s 13,500 U.S. restaurants by 2026.

The partnership will launch later this year, and customers will be able to order three flavors including original glazed, iced chocolate with sprinkles and chocolate ice cream with cream filling.

Experts say the new menu has hit a lull, but McDonald’s appears to be gearing up for more menu additions.

The company has also come under fire from customers who complain about its affordable prices. One person posted a receipt for an $18 Big Mac meal, while others recently criticized the lack of a $1 menu.

McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski said on an earnings call in February that the company had lost most of its low-income customers and those making less than $45,000 a year due to food inflation pressures.

“As we move into 2024, I think the focus is probably going to be on what I would call affordability,” Kempczinski said on an earnings call with Wall Street analysts.
