McDonald’s Extends Hours Amid Labor Challenges
Franchise owner Scott Rodrick has voiced concerns about “cost pressure” due to California’s new minimum wage laws affecting fast-food franchises, as discussed on “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street.”
In response to the challenges, McDonald’s is extending its operating hours at many locations across the U.S. starting this summer. This move follows a decision to recruit over 300,000 new workers.
The late-night openings will continue for most fast-food outlets, although certain restaurants located in airports, malls, or areas that prohibit extended hours won’t participate in this change. “Our fans often share their favorite McDonald’s orders,” Rodrick pointed out, adding that they aim to satisfy late-night cravings with more choices and longer hours at various restaurants.
With plans to hire as many as 375,000 workers, McDonald’s sees this as a significant employment initiative for the summer season. Currently, the chain operates with over 2 million employees globally, including more than 150,000 in corporate and own-operated restaurants.
New Menu Item: Macrispie Strip
Most of the popular menu items will be available late at night, though the final decisions regarding menu offerings will rest with individual franchise owners. Alongside the extended hours, McDonald’s will launch a promotional event on Saturday, giving away 1,000 virtual gift cards for free McCrispy strips. Participants who post with the tag #DipFormCCrisPyStripsGiveAway on their Instagram Stories may get a chance to win.
On the same day, the company will offer free Mac Lis Piece Strip products and gift cards to concertgoers in major cities like New York, Detroit, and Los Angeles.
As part of its expansion strategy, McDonald’s has announced plans to open 50,000 new locations by 2027, with 900 restaurants expected in the next couple of years. The upcoming U.S. push aims to better serve more customers during the summer months.
