Former Republican Congressman David Jolly said Friday on MSNBC's “Deadline” that the media should go to Mar-a-Lago like “Morning Joe” and give President-elect Donald Trump “impartiality.” He said it was not.“ Hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski did so.
“What's really worrying is that people who have tried to act responsibly in the aftermath of the election are feeling the sting of defeat,” Jolie said. I didn’t think, “I’m angry.” We are upset because we know we are right, but we are on the losing side of this battle. So what does that mean for a responsible media, responsible voters, and a responsible Democratic Party in this environment? The only answer is to double down on the responsibility of Donald Trump and his allies, even in an environment where they lose. Even redouble efforts to present a democracy that represents all people. ”
Guest host Alicia Menendez asked, “What does it mean to double?”
“I wish we would stop just saying we're going to give Donald Trump fairness, as some people in the Democratic Party and the media and voters are doing,” Jolie said. They say, I just give up. We're going to give him stock. We're going to give him values that are on par with traditional American values. No, that's definitely not the case. You can't do that. I'm sorry for saying this. I can't go to Mar-a-Lago. You can't do that. That annoys me. You can't do that. We must hold Donald Trump accountable for what he did wrong. You have to hold all of his allies accountable for what's wrong, even if it means you're in an environment where you lose and you're threatening your freedom and security as Americans. You either believe that Donald Trump and Trumpism are wrong and a threat to American democracy, or you don't. ”
