Federal agencies that oversee Medicare, Medicaid and other major healthcare programs face employee layoffs, flag morale, disrupt the message, and hopes for additional disruption undermine the monitoring and management of key programs that fund the care of half of Americans.
Leaders of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have yet to formally receive a list of people fired in the first cuts from the Trump administration. CMS leaders believe that at least 300 of the agency's 6,700 employees have been let go.
