Medic was killed in an Israeli missile strike at a Gaza hospital.
Tuesday’s attack came two days after another major hospital was targeted, prompting a warning from the United Nations that the territorial humanitarian crisis was the worst since the conflict began.
Medical staff said the latest airstrikes were hit at the entrance to Kuwaitfield Hospital in Al Mwasi, near Khan Yunis city. One Medic was killed and nine others were injured.
Hundreds of thousands of displaced people live in the area, mainly in rag-fitting tents alongside the dunes. They left their home after Israeli forces resumed offensive operations and seized a belt in South Gaza, including the city of Rafa, where Palestinians are prohibited from entering.
On Sunday, Israeli missiles partially destroyed Al Ali Hospital. This was the only facility in northern Gaza offering critical care. The doctor said the explosion had little surgery on the hospital and was unable to accept patients.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he is “deeply wary” from the incident, stressing that the hospital is protected under international humanitarian law.
Israel has repeatedly targeted Gaza hospitals for the past 18 months, claiming Hamas has been used to hide terrorist activities. The Israeli military claimed that Al Ali was being used by Hamas as a “order and management” centre. Emergency teams running rescue operations in Gaza are also being targeted.
A doctor working in Gaza warned that medical provision was at a breakpoint. “Repeated targeting of the healthcare system instills and endures the confidence of the medical team, especially after seeing torture, abuse and ongoing targets. It is sufficient.
The United Nations Coordination Agency for Humanitarian Affairs said the situation in Gaza “is likely to be the worst in 18 months since the outbreak of hostility.”
Since the collapse of the ceasefire with Hamas in March, Israel has blocked all aid to its territory, resulting in a significant shortage of food, water, fuel and medicine. It was the longest time Israel denied aid to Gaza, with human rights groups saying that tactics intended to pressure Hamas to release the remaining hostages held are equivalent to war crimes.
Israel also resumed airstrikes and ground operations in Gaza, expelling around 400,000 people, killing 1,600 people in March alone, and bringing a surge in civilian casualties.
Unknown security officials will insist that the strategy is working and force Hamas to agree to a deal on hostages to the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.
“Military pressure is affecting it,” the official said. “They are gas shortage and they run out of food and fuel in a few weeks. The great achievements of residents’ return to the Northern Gaza Strip have been erased. It’s rattling.”
According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, the Israeli attack in response to the attack by Hamas in southern Israel on October 7, 2023 has now claimed 51,000 lives. The count does not distinguish between civilians and combatants, but women and children account for more than half of the deaths.
Earlier this month, United Nations Expert Group He said Israel’s actions in Gaza have led to “destroying Palestinian life.”
“If they are not killed by bombs or bullets, they slowly suffocate due to the lack of basic means of survival,” they said. “The only difference is the means and speed of death.”
