The inclusion of biological males in women’s sports has sparked contention. Yet, some celebrities and detached athletes seem oblivious to this ongoing discussion.

The ACLU has launched a campaign advocating for transgender athletes, featuring actors Elliot Page and Naomi Watts. These well-known figures, positioned in an elite status, appear to be indifferent to how their actions might affect younger female athletes.

A 30-second commercial set to air during the Unrivaled Women’s Basketball series also showcases soccer player Megan Rapinoe alongside her partner and WNBA star Sue Bird. Both athletes, while prominent in their own right, seem driven more by ideology than the realities faced by the next wave of aspiring female athletes.

Some argue that former athletes should have greater awareness, yet it seems trans ideology has overshadowed basic reasoning.

In the ad, Rapinoe reflects on the early belief that anything is possible for youth, suggesting that the limitations imposed by the world are a moral shortcoming.

She adds, “But on the field, on the track, on the court, you can just be yourself here.”

Naomi Watts, a mother to a transgender child, emphasizes that the fight for women in sports is fundamentally “about freedom,” as she states in the advertisement.

However, that perspective disregards the historical significance of Title IX and differences in biology.

Title IX, enacted in 1972, mandates equitable opportunities for men and women in federally funded schools. This legislation has significantly increased female participation in sports and contributed to broader gender equality.

Interestingly, Rapinoe was part of a noteworthy moment when the FC Dallas under-15 boys team defeated the U.S. women’s national team in a 2017 scrimmage, a match they lost 5-2. Two years later, they triumphed at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

One might wonder why those boys aren’t encouraged to identify as girls, creating unnecessary competition with their female peers. After all, Rapinoe and Bird, both retired from athletic careers now in their 40s, have no daughters to advocate for.

The ACLU’s recent initiatives include filing a lawsuit with the Supreme Court aimed at ensuring that transgender athletes can compete in accordance with their gender identity.

This reflects a troubling trend where prominent American institutions seem to prioritize ideology over the core civil liberties they were established to uphold.

Chase Strangio, an ACLU attorney involved in this Supreme Court engagement, previously called for banning the book “Irreversible Damage,” which critiques the medical practices associated with gender transition for minors.

In a striking historical parallel, ACLU lawyers once defended the rights of Nazis to march in a predominantly Jewish area of Skokie, Illinois, not out of agreement but in defense of civil liberties.

Today, the ACLU may be seen advocating for banning certain ideas instead.

What these activists, celebrities, and former athletes seem to overlook is the potential harm their stances could inflict on the communities they claim to support.

While it is vital to advocate for the rights and dignity of transgender individuals, arguing that their rights in competitive sports supersede those of female athletes risks alienating the public.

Recent polls indicate that a significant majority—69% of Americans—believe participation in sports should be determined by biological sex, a figure that has recently risen.

Pushing for the inclusion of biological males in women’s sports not only defies common sense but also threatens the broader acceptance of transgender issues.

From 2022 to 2025, support for various transgender-related rights appears to have dwindled across the board, including public opinion on legal protections against discrimination.

Ultimately, emphasizing the rights of a few transgender athletes in competitive sports can detract from the many transgender individuals simply seeking to live without conflict.

In reality, this activism risks overshadowing the welfare of female athletes as well as the broader transgender community. A setback in court might serve to realign these concerns in favor of those genuinely affected.
