Meghan Markle's distant father to get a prosthetic leg following a serious amputation

Thomas Markle Sr., the estranged father of Meghan Markle, is poised to adapt to life with a prosthetic leg following a severe injury that necessitated amputation. His son, Thomas Markle Jr., shared this update during a livestream, mentioning that their father is currently in the Philippines receiving “therapy” and “physical rehabilitation.”

He emphasized the urgency of getting Thomas Sr. fitted for a prosthesis soon, as it’s his “goal” and “priority” to walk again at 81 years old.

In early December, it emerged that Thomas Sr. had been hospitalized in intensive care after emergency surgery. The situation came about when he was feeling unwell at home, prompting Thomas Jr. to rush him to a nearby hospital. He described how doctors warned them that his father’s life was in immediate danger, leading to a frantic ride in an ambulance to a larger facility.

Meghan’s sister, Samantha Markle, has attributed their father’s declining health to the various challenges he has faced in recent years, stating, “He’s a strong man, but he’s been through so much.”

Thomas Jr. expressed concern for his father’s resilience, recalling past health scares like two heart attacks, a stroke, and a traumatic earthquake. He hopes his father is strong enough to overcome this latest challenge.

On December 5, Thomas Sr. underwent a three-hour operation to amputate his left leg below the knee due to a blood clot that disrupted his circulation. “My father is very brave. His leg turned blue and then black. It happened very quickly,” Thomas Jr. relayed, noting that amputation was the only viable option left to save his life—“a matter of life and death,” as he put it.

Despite their estrangement, Meghan reportedly reached out to Thomas Sr. following his surgery. It is noteworthy that he missed her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018 due to health complications from heart surgery and has faced other significant medical issues since then, including a stroke while living in Tijuana, Mexico.

Reflecting on past struggles, he once said, “I’m so grateful and I know how lucky I am to be alive,” acknowledging the challenges that have accompanied his health journey. Thomas Sr. welcomed Meghan with Doria Ragland, with whom he was married from 1979 to 1987, while also having two other children, Samantha and Thomas Jr., with his first wife, Roslyn Markle.
