Meghan Trainor Discusses Exciting New Commercial
In a recent chat, Meghan Trainor, the 31-year-old singer, shared her excitement about starring in her first State Farm commercial alongside Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. It’s thrilling, really — she admits there was a moment when she thought, “Is this a joke?” The idea of working with Mahomes took her by surprise, but upon reading the script, she felt a wave of relief and excitement.
Having grown up playing football with her brother, working with Mahomes felt like a “miracle” to her. In fact, she jokingly mentioned that she’s even more excited about this than anything she’s done before. It’s a big deal.
Meeting Mahomes made her a bit nervous at first, but she found him to be genuinely kind. “He’s really sweet,” she recalled, and the entire set atmosphere was welcoming. She wore a bubble dress throughout the shoot, feeling a bit out of place as a “pop girl,” but the crew, especially Jay from State Farm, made her feel comfortable quickly.
Acting has always been on her wishlist. She reflected on how emotional she felt when the opportunity with State Farm came up, saying, “I can’t believe they considered me.” Her husband, Daryl Sabara, famously started acting young, which adds to her own aspirations. While she’s still getting the hang of it, she embraces the journey ahead.
Daryl is best known for his role in the “Spy Kids” series — a childhood star himself. Now that they have a four-year-old son, Riley, discussions about acting have become daily topics. Trainor humorously noted Riley’s short attention span and the challenges that come with encouraging him, especially when it comes to auditioning for commercials.
Interestingly, her little one has begun asking to join her on stage. “If that’s what you want to do, I’ll support you,” Trainor said, adding that she would join him for a performance, albeit with some hesitations about her dance skills. “I can barely make them dance.”
Trainor and Sabara started dating in 2016, got engaged in 2017, and married the following year, welcoming the two boys into their lives. While balancing a music career and new acting projects makes it tough to be present at home, she mentioned it’s something she continuously works on.
When reflecting on her upbringing, Trainor noted how her own mother worked long hours, producing a sense of guilt for her when she thinks about time away from her family now. Nevertheless, she remains determined to find balance and ensure her children enjoy experiences, like traveling with her to shoot commercials. “It’s such a reward,” she said, as she thrives on these moments with her son.
