Kelly Questions Vance on Trump’s Foreign Policy Focus
During a recent interview on SiriusXM, Megyn Kelly probed Vice President J.D. Vance regarding President Donald Trump’s emphasis on foreign policy. This discussion came shortly after a U.S. Marine Corps F-35 shot down an Iranian drone that was approaching the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln, while Iranian forces were trying to seize a U.S. oil tanker.
Vance, speaking at a press conference, asserted that Trump’s primary concern is actually the “domestic front.” He elaborated on “The Megyn Kelly Show,” suggesting that many believe the President is allocating too much attention to international matters. “I mean, why focus on Iran? What about America’s own issues—affordability and our daily lives?” Kelly noted. Interestingly, there’s a faction that feels the U.S. missed a chance to support protestors in Iran, advocating for a more aggressive military stance. It’s a muddied situation.
Trump has often touted his success in winding down wars and, in June, launched strikes on Iranian nuclear sites in relation to Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Vance defended the administration against claims of excessive foreign policy focus. “If you’re the president, foreign policy is essential. The U.S. is a leading nation,” he acknowledged. “Yet, I see him prioritizing the wealth and safety of Americans, whether through immigration or criminal justice reform. Some of his foreign policy is about bringing industries back to the U.S. with tariffs.” In fact, Trump announced plans to suspend tariffs on specific food imports because of advancements in trade talks.
Discussing Iran’s nuclear program, Vance explained, “This decision rests on the President, similar to Operation Midnight Hammer. He’s clear: we cannot allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons.” He highlighted the gravity of the situation, emphasizing that Iran is the largest state sponsor of terrorism. “It’s one thing for domestic attacks to occur, but imagine if those perpetrators had nuclear capabilities. That’s simply unacceptable.”
Amid these tensions, Iran threatened to withdraw from discussions planned in Istanbul, only for the U.S. to deny a last-minute change of venue to Oman.
Alongside targeting Iran’s nuclear capabilities, Trump initiated military action in Venezuela that led to the apprehension of dictator Nicolas Maduro. Additionally, his administration acted against Islamic extremists in Nigeria who were attacking Christians, sending support to the Nigerian government.
Throughout his 2024 campaign, Trump vowed to avoid “endless wars,” opting instead to concentrate on the economy— an approach that successfully brought him victory over then-Vice President Kamala Harris.
