Megyn Kelly rips Beyoncé’s cover of Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’

Megyn Kelly doesn’t single out her cover version of Beyoncé’s hit “Jolene,” calling it a “bass-driven” version of the pop star’s feminist spin on Dolly Parton’s 1973 country original. Ta.

“Queen Bey got this song. God forbid she sings something that makes her look like she’s not flexing her muscles to the max.” Mr Kelly told Sky News on Wednesday.

“So she has to change it to say, if you ever approach my guy, I’m basically going to beat the hell out of you.”

She said the pop star “completely missed that the real power was in writing songs about ‘Jolene’ without worrying about any of that.”

Parton posted a message on social media supporting Beyoncé’s cover version.

“Wow, I just heard Jolene. Beyoncé is giving that girl trouble and she deserves it,” Parton recently wrote to her nearly 7 million Instagram followers. Ta.

Parton has praised Beyoncé in the past, saying, “I’m a huge Beyoncé fan and I’m so excited that she made a country album.”

“Congratulations on your Billboard Hot Country Number One single. I can’t wait to hear the full album!” Parton said of the pop star.

The Internet is divided over Beyoncé’s debut country song, “Act II: Cowboy Carter,” which topped Billboard’s country album chart.

She became the first black woman to have a No. 1 country album since the Billboard charts began in 1964.

But the album, which also includes cameos from Willie Nelson and Linda Martel, has also sparked controversy, centering on Beyoncé’s embrace of genres typically associated with white artists.

The conversation surrounding Beyoncé’s exploration of country music began when she arrived at the 2024 Grammy Awards in full cowboy attire and made a statement without saying a word.

She then performed two hybrid country songs during the Super Bowl, “Texas Hold’em” and “16 Carriage,” which eventually led to the release of “Cowboy Carter.”

However, country music fans had mixed reactions, and some radio stations refused to play the song.

In February, her song “Texas Hold’em” reached number one on the US Airplay chart, making her the first black woman to reach number one on the chart.
