Melania Could Pick Trump’s Running Mate — ‘She Has a Great Deal of Influence’

David Urban, a former adviser to Donald Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign, said on CNN’s “OutFront” on Friday that former first lady Melania Trump may choose her husband’s running mate.

Host Erin Burnett asked, “The top three candidates are Vance Burgum and Rubio. For Vance, they have Don Jr., Tucker Carlson and Steve Bannon. For Rubio, they have Sean Hannity. For Burgum, they have Murdoch. Based on your experience with Trump, who do you think will ultimately have the most influence on his choice?”

Urban said, “Melania Trump is his wife, right? I’d be interested to know who Melania likes. You know, she’s probably his closest advisor that’s not mentioned, right? I think she has a lot of influence over her husband and over the president. She’s met with all three of them, maybe more than that. So it’d be interesting to know who she likes.”

“He’s listening to all kinds of people, whether it’s a police officer at a photo op or a billionaire at a fundraising dinner, and he’s listening to what they have to say. And of course, Donald Trump has the final say, and he’s probably going to implement it, according to reports ahead of the convention.”

Urban added, “The Republican Party has a deep bench of candidates for vice president, so I would be open to any of them. It’s up to the American voter to imagine him in that position as president of the United States. I think that’s the most important thing, because ultimately that’s the role that the vice president plays.”
