Growing Box Office Success for Melania Documentary

Since Monday, the momentum for the documentary on Melania Trump has been steadily increasing, contrary to predictions from some media outlets that it would underperform.

On its opening day, the film generated an impressive $963,000. This figure climbed to $1.22 million on Tuesday, and by Wednesday, it surged to $1.25 million in daily receipts.

Mark Beckman, a senior advisor and producer of the film, expressed excitement to Breitbart News. “We’re thrilled about this,” he said. The weekend release is set to expand to over 2,000 theaters, despite earlier claims of the documentary’s anticipated failure.

Interestingly, the film’s debut has become the highest-grossing documentary launch in over a decade. Adding to its success, the revenue from Wednesday puts the total box office at about $10.6 million. By Monday, the earnings for Melania had already outstripped those of two theatrically released Barack Obama films, both in terms of individual and combined revenues.

This situation appears to reflect the struggles of corporate media to sway public opinion. Many attempts to undermine the film—like predicting empty theaters and negative reviews—seem to have backfired. In fact, the documentary launched in around 1,800 theaters, yet only about 40 critics chose to review it on Rotten Tomatoes, unlike the 159 that reviewed Southside With You, a film about Barack and Michelle Obama that had a smaller release.

A notable aspect of the Melania reviews is the lack of advance screenings for critics, but audiences are turning out in droves. Critics’ reviews indicated a sharp divide; while the general audience rated the film at 94 percent, critics gave it a mere 5 percent. This disparity suggests some bias in critical reception.

For many viewers, the box office success isn’t unexpected. Melania Trump has an intriguing background—a story that resonates with those interested in her journey from a communist country to being a prominent figure in the modeling world and eventually, the role of First Lady.

Furthermore, the documentary has received an A Cinemascore and an impressive 89 percent rating for “Definitely Recommend,” with a significant portion of the audience finding it excellent.

In a way, it seems like a scenario where Trump keeps finding success while critics seem to falter.
