First Lady Melania Trump Visits Children’s Hospital
WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, First Lady Melania Trump spent time engaging with young patients at a Washington, DC hospital, bringing along teddy bears and other gifts. She chatted with the children about their favorite music artists and what to expect from the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
“Everyone gets a teddy bear—and more,” she greeted ten inpatient and outpatient children at the Children’s Hospital. “Do you know what you’re celebrating tomorrow?”
“Independence Day!” one excited child shouted in response.
This visit coincided with House Republicans moving forward with President Trump’s major tax and spending initiatives, which were headed to his desk for approval.
A grand signing ceremony is anticipated during federal public holidays, featuring military flyovers, including F-22s, F-35s, and B-2 bombers.
“It’s a very special day,” Melania told the kids. “We’re going to have a big party at the White House… When you feel better, maybe next year you can come and we’ll celebrate together.”
During the visit, she asked the kids about their favorite foods, sports, and musicals as they decorated rocks. They also placed an American flag in a planter at the Bunny Melon Healing Garden, which was dedicated in 2017 during President Trump’s first term.
One child expressed admiration for Taylor Swift, whom the president had called “hot” earlier. Melania responded diplomatically that the pop star was “very talented.”
In a post from mid-May, Trump mentioned the pop star after she gained attention for approving Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 election cycle.
Another girl at the craft table chimed in that she really likes Sabrina Carpenter. “She’s great too,” Melania replied before heading outside with the children to present the hospital with a new variety of rose named “Eternal Fire,” which features a strong citrus scent.
When asked if she enjoys golf, Melania noted she wouldn’t play, while her husband often enjoys the sport at their Florida and New Jersey resorts over weekends.
Michelle Riley Brown, the hospital’s president and CEO, assisted in helping the children as they placed July-themed wind propellers and patriotic bows in planting beds. “It’s beautiful here,” Melania remarked.
Later, the First Lady visited a three-month-old patient in the transplant unit, along with several other patients dealing with heart and kidney diseases.
Melania Trump is the eighth First Lady, following notable figures like Jill Biden, Michelle Obama, and Laura Bush.
Many colorful photos adorned the walls, including one of a bold toddler who had captivated everyone during a pre-Christmas visit to the Children’s National Hospital back in December 2024.
