First Lady Melania Trump Visits Children’s National Hospital
On Friday, First Lady Melania Trump spent time with young patients at Children’s National Hospital, offering heartfelt wishes for the holiday season. She assured the children, aged 4 to 11, that Santa would be making a visit and bringing “lots of toys.”
In her words, “Wishing everyone a very merry Christmas and a very happy new year.” She added a touching note of encouragement, saying, “Wishing you lots of strength and love.”
President Trump also participated in the visit, reading a story titled “How Does Santa Get Down the Chimney?” to the children before greeting others in the hematology-oncology wing.
A moment of joy occurred when a little girl, her hair adorned with a red ribbon, excitedly ran up to the President for a hug, briefly chatting with him.
Santa and his wife joined the festivities, filling the room with Christmas trees and presents. Melania brought gifts for the children, including ornaments with the message “Be Best,” which relates to her campaign focused on children’s well-being.
During her visit, Santa presented a coin to Trump, inscribed with “Trust Me” and “Merry Christmas.” She conveyed that President Trump was sending his love and blessings to the children.
“Visiting Children’s National during the Christmas season is a tradition I cherish, and I am grateful for the opportunity to visit again this year,” she expressed before leaving.
She reflected on how spending time with these courageous children and their families highlights the strength, hope, and love that encapsulate the holiday spirit. Moreover, she took a moment to extend her gratitude to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff at the hospital for their unwavering care throughout the year.
This tradition of first ladies visiting hospitalized children during the Christmas season dates back to the 1940s, initiated by the wife of former President Harry Truman.
