Melissa Joan Hart on Faith and Family

Melissa Joan Hart is highlighting the core values that shape her life: faith, family, and service. Known for her memorable roles in “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” and “Clarissa,” she describes her Christian faith as a guiding force rather than just a belief system. It influences everything from Sunday routines to her children’s education and her professional roles.

In a recent interview, Hart shared how her faith continues to steer her decisions. “Faith is central to our family and my marriage,” she explained. They enjoy attending church together every Sunday and Hart finds joy in her Sunday school class and women’s Bible study.

Having grown up Catholic and now attending a Baptist church with her family, Hart emphasizes that faith should be experienced actively, not merely inherited. She mentioned how her children have attended Christian schools, with one emotional highlight being when her son chose to be baptized of his own volition.

“My son just decided he wanted to be baptized. It was a special moment,” she recalled, contrasting it with her own experience of infant baptism.

Faith is interwoven into Hart’s family meals, with prayers preceding meals at home or even in restaurants. Married to musician Mark Wilkerson since 2003, they have three sons together: Mason, Braydon, and Tucker.

When discussing her career, Hart noted that while her faith shapes her personal life, it doesn’t strictly dictate the roles she accepts in Hollywood. “I’m not just going to pick roles that are very Christian,” she clarified. She believes in exploring various human experiences through acting, saying, “It’s important to tell all the stories.”

Her global experiences with organizations like World Vision have profoundly influenced her. “We learned so much from our time in Africa, praying with families before and after meeting them,” she shared, underscoring the power of prayer.

Hart has been an ambassador for World Vision since 2019, emphasizing the importance of sustainable change within communities. She finds value in the organization’s focus on lasting impact, explaining, “It’s very well thought out.”

As the holiday season nears, Hart mentioned utilizing World Vision’s holiday gift catalog, allowing donors to purchase essentials for those in need. She also expressed her intention to focus on more meaningful, thoughtful gifts for her family this year.

Back home in Nashville, she’s scaling down her family’s Christmas traditions to prioritize what truly matters. “I want to take the pressure off and emphasize the reason for the season,” she explained.

Hart is also starring in a new Netflix Christmas project alongside Alicia Silverstone, aiming to inject humor back into holiday films. “I’m on a mission to bring comedy back to Christmas movies,” she stated. “I think this movie is a great place to start.”
