Merat Kiros criticized for avoiding the antisemitism label regarding the Boulder rally attack

Colorado’s attorney general, Phil Weiser, who is also a Democratic candidate for governor, expressed concern on Wednesday regarding Melat Quiros, a far-left congressional candidate. He pointed out that Quiros struggled to clearly determine whether the firebombing incident at a pro-Israel rally could be labeled anti-Semitic.

During an interview with 9News last month, Quiros sidestepped the question about the deadly attack in Boulder, which resulted in one fatality and left several others injured. “We don’t really know what was going through the perpetrator’s mind,” she stated. “All I know is he attacked what some innocent people might have believed. And honestly, I’m not sure about the beliefs of those who were at the protest. They were likely just calling for the return of individuals kidnapped on October 7th, which isn’t a political statement in itself.”

Weiser commented, “The fact that we’re discussing anti-Zionism or anti-Semitism is a political matter. Everyone is free to have their own opinion, but to me, it was about the loss of an innocent life. Regardless of the perpetrator’s thoughts during the act, we have a responsibility to convey that violence isn’t the answer when disagreements arise.”

When pressed further, Quiros maintained her uncertainty about the motivations behind the attack. In contrast, Weiser, who has recently won the Democratic primary against Senator Michael Bennet, emphasized that the assailant, Mohamed Sabri Soliman, has been convicted on multiple charges, including hate crimes. He argued, “You can’t look at that murder without acknowledging that a hate crime occurred. If someone can’t see that, it worries me. This case was judged, and the verdict confirmed that it was indeed a hate crime.”

Weiser labeled the incident as an “anti-Semitic attack” and expressed sorrow over the death of 82-year-old Karen Diamond, who lost her life amidst the chaos of the rally.

He remarked, “This kind of commentary is often associated with discussions around Black Lives Matter. Now we are emphasizing that Jewish lives matter too. For many, this might be a complex conversation, but it’s necessary. Black Lives Matter. Period. Elijah McClain’s life matters. No caveats. Karen Diamond’s life matters. No caveats. That’s the essence of the message.”

Weiser mentioned that he hasn’t yet discussed Quiros’ statements with her directly and that Fox News Digital has reached out to her campaign for further comments.
