California Girl Severely Injured by Dogs

A 7-year-old girl in California is fighting for her life after being brutally attacked by a group of dogs, leaving her with serious injuries, including a scalp injury and multiple wounds on her legs, according to family and local authorities.

The girl, named Patricia by her family, was transported by helicopter to Davis Medical Center in critical condition following the incident in her hometown of Corning on June 27. Her grandmother, Monica Edmiston, shared details on a GoFundMe page.

As investigations began, the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office took six dogs from the site of the attack for examination and placed them in a local animal shelter.

According to Edmiston, the dogs caused significant damage, “ripping her scalp off and leaving numerous scars on her body.” The GoFundMe page was created to assist the family with living expenses while they supported Patricia in the hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery after the attack.

The page highlighted Patricia’s strength, stating, “She is an incredibly strong girl, and her resilience is an inspiration to those around her.”

Emotional photos displayed on the fundraising website show Patricia in a hospital bed, bandaged and recovering, contrasting with happier moments captured before the attack, such as a photo of her proudly receiving a school award.

The family is currently experiencing significant hardships. They have been sleeping in their car in Sacramento to stay close to Patricia, struggling to meet basic needs such as food and gas, according to the fundraiser.

In a positive update shared on Tuesday, family members announced that Patricia is expected to leave the hospital on Thursday, just five days after the attack, stating, “Patricia is doing very well.”

However, they also indicated that her recovery process is only just beginning. “She has a long road of recovery ahead of her,” Edmiston mentioned, noting that while Patricia remains scared, her strength is a blessing.

As of Friday, the GoFundMe campaign raised over $4,100, surpassing its initial goal of $3,000, but has since been paused.

Edmiston expressed gratitude for the community’s support, writing, “Patricia and her family would like to thank everyone for your prayers, thoughts, and donations. The love from the city of Corning has been overwhelming. God bless you all.”

The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office has not provided any updates on the investigation, and no arrests have been made.
