A Florida man suffered a disheartening payback after trying to steal a car from the wrong person, police said.
A thief reportedly tried to steal a car that was parked outside a home early Thursday morning after the owner called 911 after hearing a commotion outside his home and seeing a man trying to break into his vehicle.
Before police arrived on scene, the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Blake Robinson, confronted the vehicle’s owner, a 66-year-old man.
According to authorities, the two got into an argument and Robinson knocked the store owner to the ground and kicked him in the head, but Robert Polk fought back and was able to neutralize Robinson until police arrived.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office post “Welcome to Brevard County, we proudly support ‘Play Stupid Games and Win Stupid Prizes,'” the Facebook post reads.
Brevard County Sheriff’s Office officers arrived on scene and arrested Robinson, who had blood around his mouth and “appeared to be struggling to get up from the ground after being struck on the buttocks by the 66-year-old male,” according to the report.
“Yes, tough guy Robinson was manhandled by a 66-year-old man, but thankfully only required brief medical treatment and suffered no serious injuries,” the sheriff’s office wrote.
Officers observed Polk’s face was red and swollen and one of his ears was covered in blood.
Police said Robinson had to seek medical treatment after being beaten by the owner.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office wrote, “Robinson was fortunate to be in Brevard County where he earned several awards for his foolish actions, including being chauffeured to a local medical facility where he was examined for injuries and then arrived at less than luxurious lodgings at Ivy’s Iron Bar Lodge. At the lodge, he was given a freshly washed two-piece ensemble to make himself comfortable and then escorted to his open floor plan bedroom.”
Robinson was charged with burglary of an unoccupied vehicle and felony assault of a person over the age of 65. He was booked into the Brevard County Jail on $30,000 bail.
Sheriff Wayne Ivey said the suspect was “charged with a more serious offense for assaulting an individual over the age of 65 and ultimately striking that individual on the buttocks.”
Ivey added, “Here in Brevard County we often say, ‘Try things and discover!'”
