Message to Trump: Stay firm on Ukraine at the NATO summit

As President Trump gears up for the NATO summit in Ankara, prioritizing Ukraine’s defense is crucial.

No matter what frustrations he faces, he must not abandon Kiev.

Instead, with Putin’s unwavering aggression, Trump should communicate to NATO partners the necessity of maintaining pressure on Moscow and bolstering defenses along the eastern border.

Russian aggression poses a long-term security threat for Europe, and potentially for the U.S. in the future. This must be a primary concern for all leaders within the Alliance.

Failing to act sends a message of weakness to Putin, which could encourage adversaries from Beijing to Tehran.

Ukraine has demonstrated remarkable resilience in defending itself. Increasing attacks within Russia and the rising costs of the conflict highlight this struggle.

The pace of Russian territorial gains is also being curtailed. As Vice President Vance pointed out, Russia is expending significant resources for each square kilometer acquired.

In the meantime, U.S. and European interests align closely, far more than recent political rhetoric may imply. Trump needs to seize this moment to unify allies and secure support for Ukraine to resist Russian aggression rather than seek surrender.

While issues like Greenland and funding may seem like minor distractions, the real challenge lies in recognizing Putin’s militarism and the looming threat of Russian dominance in Europe.

Indeed, the Kremlin will likely brandish nuclear threats as Ukraine continues to resist Moscow’s advances.

Trump should remain steadfast in facing these menaces. Putin understands that any nuclear strike would lead to Russia’s own destruction.

This war, initiated solely by Putin, is now in its fifth year and has cost Russia dearly in resources, lives, and global standing. Such a situation isn’t sustainable for them.

Ukraine bravely stands as a buffer between civilization and chaos.

The financial implications for NATO and the U.S., although substantial, are trivial compared to the sacrifices of the countless Ukrainian fathers, brothers, and sons lost, as well as the devastation of cities like Mariupol.

Trump must advocate for Ukraine in Ankara. It’s the least we can do.
